AI for Australian environmental consulting — cited, sovereign, and built by someone who does the work.

Ochre Systems builds AI tools purpose-built for Australian environmental consulting — from cited regulatory answers to full site-assessment and reporting — designed to run entirely on your own hardware. Made in Perth by a consultant with 20+ years in contaminated land.

Environmental consulting runs on regulation — layers of national and state frameworks, screening levels that change, and reports that take hours to assemble. Ochre Systems was built inside that world, not adjacent to it: to take the grind out of the parts that don't need a human, so you can spend your time on the parts that do. And because a lot of this work is sensitive, it's built to run without ever sending your data off-site.

Regulatory Q&A · Early access

Ochre Compass — ask a regulatory question, get a cited answer.

Ochre Compass answers plain-English questions about Australian environmental regulation and hands you the source every time. Ask it for a screening level, a definition, a duty, or how a framework applies — and it replies in clear language with the document, schedule, and table it drew from.

What makes it different is what it won't do: it doesn't guess. Every value is traced to a real source in the corpus, and if the answer isn't there, it tells you so plainly rather than inventing one. For professionals whose advice carries liability, that restraint is the point.

Currently spans the national NEPM framework, Western Australian legislation, the PFAS NEMP, and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines — with more jurisdictions added as licensing is confirmed.

  • "What is the HIL-A for benzo(a)pyrene in soil?"
  • "What triggers a duty to report a contaminated site in WA?"
  • "What are the current PFAS drinking-water guideline values?"

A cited answer — plain English, with its source.

End-to-end assessment & reporting platform

Ochre Laterite — the whole assessment workflow, on your own server.

Laterite is a complete platform for contaminated land assessment and reporting that runs entirely on your own hardware. It brings the map, the lab data, the regulatory criteria, the figures, and the report into one place:

  • Site assessment & GIS — cadastral parcels, aerial imagery, site boundaries, and publication-ready figures.
  • Lab data & criteria comparison — ingest results and compare them against the right Australian screening levels, with exceedances flagged.
  • Report generation — draft structured reports (PSI, DSI, Factual ASS, ASSDMP) against your own templates, style guides, and checklists.
  • Document review — a second set of eyes over a report or dataset before it goes out.

Because it runs locally, client and site data never leaves your premises.

Why Ochre

Your data stays put.

Designed from the ground up to run air-gapped — no internet connection required to operate. Built for Australian data-sovereignty expectations and the security posture that sensitive and Defence-adjacent work demands.

Cited, not fabricated.

Every regulatory value is traced to its source, and the system is built to refuse rather than guess. Honest by design — because wrong or invented values are a professional-liability problem, not a feature.

Built for Australia.

Grounded in the frameworks you actually use — NEPM, PFAS NEMP, ADWG, and state and territory guidance — with a Western Australian focus.

Built by a practitioner.

Made by a consultant with 20+ years in Australian contaminated land — the tool one of your peers wished existed, not a generic AI product retrofitted to your industry.

About

Ochre Systems is led by Ashley Sheardown, an environmental scientist with more than 20 years in contaminated land assessment in Western Australia. After years of doing the work — the site investigations, the criteria comparisons, the reports — he built the tools he wished he'd had: fast, accurate, honest about their limits, and safe to run on sensitive projects.

Ochre Systems is independent and Perth-based. The software is licensed to clients; the intellectual property stays with Ochre Systems.
